Swine Flu Outbreak

Many of you know that Mom is in town this week. Ofcourse, I had lined up a week of playdates, and excursions to the Children Museum and several parks. But, all of that changed on Monday and Tuesday with the increasing awareness conerning the Swine Flu. We cancelled everything and are now quarantining Harrison until this becomes further controlled.

In case you haven't had the chance to check further into this, I wanted to post some information because the Swine Flu has been upgraded TODAY to a STAGE 5 Pandemic (Stage 6 is the highest). Today, I received an email from David stating that his secretary's best friend's 2 month old has come down with the swine flu. Not only that, but because the hospitals in Houston are over capacity with cases of the flu, they were turned away from Texas Children's and sent to an emergency clinic. And you probably all have heard that the first and only death in US is in Houston, so you can only imagine how scared we all are right now. Below is a list of cases in the US and a link to more information:

Harrison's Christening

It was such an amazing weekend in Houston! David and I were so thrilled to have our family and friends in town to celebrate Harrison's big day with us! Uncle Bill came into town Thursday and was over at the house for a visit with Harrison by 1030 the next morning! It was so fun to see them finally meet and Harrison was completely enthralled with him. My girls arrived Friday around 430 and we immediately toasted their arrival with some vino and cheese, while the chicken and steak skewers were roasting on the grill. Several (or should I say "many?") hours later, we were still toasting their arrival while the kiddos and David were sleeping oh-so-soundly! (well, maybe not David, but definitely the babies!) It was so wonderful to catch up and I felt like I'd never left Atlanta - it was the same good 'ol times with my girls!

Then on Saturday, we headed to Discovery Green Park and had lunch, then back to the house to nap and do some last minute preparations for the baptism lunch on Sunday. By the time we went to eat Mexican, we all had our second wind and ready to celebrate some more! My Mom's sister, Jan, and her finance, Van, flew in from Atlanta to help us celebrate, too. Jan is a celebration all in herself, and having the two of them is a welcomed addition to any weekend!

Sunday was such a special day in itself. Not only that Harrison's Grandfather baptized him in a church he built from the ground up, but that my Mom hand sewed Harrison's christening gown!!! David and I will treasure it forever - it's gorgeous! In addition to our family and out-of-town friends, several of our dear friends from Houston also made the service in Katy. Lunch afterwards was a success thanks to Paula Deen and my 4 girls! (I seriously could not have pulled it off without them - it was so wonderful to have them there to help!)

By Sunday evening, I was so sad to take Brooke, Amanda (and Addison), Tara, and Erin to the airport. The weekend flew by and I found myself teary eyed driving home because I am so lucky to have such wonderful best friends. It's living proof that proximity cannot interfere with a friendship. I love you guys!

David and I continue to see how truly blessed we are. Having our family and friends fly in from CA and GA, and our friends here in Houston gather for this special day is more than we could have ever asked for. It was a weekend we will remember forever!

Weekend Photos

We were so excited to see the sun yesterday and today! Saturday it stormed so hard that the thunder woke Harrison up during all three of his naps. Lisa and I took the boys to the park today and I got some pics of them together - Moving Day is Memorial Day Weekend. :(

Harrison is in to absolutely everything. He grabs at anything that comes within 12 inches of his hands! He has already reformatted the computer from reaching and unexpectedly banging on the keyboard. (David and I cannot figure out how to fix it. ooops) He reaches for his toys that are so far away that he will just topple over on his face - this is a semi-weekly experience for him! We are in for it - he loves light switches and plugs - in addition to cabinet pulls. If you're holding him and walk past a cabinet, watch out - he will jump out of your arms to touch the cabinet pull. You definitely have to be quick with him - and it's only going to get worse!

Harrison also LOVES being outside and reaching for the roses or anything bright- watch out thorns! So, today at the park was no different. Nathan was so sweet - sitting like a little angel. Harrison on the other hand was grabbing at the leaves, dirt, grass, tree limbs, really anything that he could find. Anyways, I got the best pics I could with the two babydolls!

Best Buddies!

David and I took Harrison to the church playground next to our neighborhhood - we were looking for swings, but did not find any, so David introduced Harrison to the playhouse and slide. He wasn't all that excited, unfortunately!

"Okay, Dad, what am I supposed to do now?"

What an angel!

"Mom, is this what you want me to do?"

"That shirt sure is sharp - where did you get it?"

"You're my boy, Nathan!"

We let Harrison try to feed himself a few puffs this weekend and he was a fast learner! yay!
"Why are you so excited about me eating a puff, Mom?"

"So, this is a puff?"

"yummy, i'll have some more!"
