17 Weeks!

Only a few more weeks for the anatomy ultrasound! This is usually done at 20 weeks and will be when we confirm that we're having a little boy.

According to babycenter.com, our baby is about the size of an avacado. These next few weeks are one of the biggest growth spurts, where the baby doubles in size. It sounds like the 5 lbs I've gained will be turning into 10 sooner rather than later!!

This weekend was full of football for us. Not only is David coaching spring 7 on 7 football, but he watched the NFL draft for hours on Saturday!!! He's been talking about it for weeks now and was like a little kid with a new toy the entire time it was on! I just can't help but think... what if our son likes ballet or wants to be an artist!!!!

Here are a few pics from the weekend... these white stretch pants are soooo comfotable!!!

Just for laughs

I really don't mind if people comment that my belly has gotten big, or that I am "getting bigger." It REALLY, honestly, does not bother me. In fact, these days Megan and I have been in stitches over what comes out of people's mouth... it's just so funny... and, we seriously aren't taking offense to it... just laughing our tooshes off!!!

I have to add a few more comments that people have made to Megan...

While furniture shopping, the sales rep says:

"Girrrrl, you MUST be having a girl because you are SPREAD."

THANK YOU for putting in your two sense. Now, go back to grammar 101.

Then, upon entering her house for dinner and not having seen his big sister in a month, Megan's brother says:

"Damn, Meg. What are you having? A basket ball player."

And, today after showing my new belly to my alterations lady, she says(in a vietnamese accent):

"Are you having twin? You big."

So, yes... it's hilarious. And, no, we're not offended... just amused if anything...

We're Going to the Chapel...

I never thought I'd be the type of parent to arrange my child's marriage, but we've already started planning his wedding! (well, Megan and I have... not our husbands!!!)

My best friend, Megan, just found out she's having a GIRL, who is due exactly a month before our little blue bundle!!!! YAY! We've penciled in Spring of 2033 for a big throw-down in GA!

You can see below that Megan and her hubby, Matt, are going to have the most precious little girl. And, while we're really just kidding about the wedding, I think we'll always really be keeping our fingers crossed!

Talking to a Pregant Woman 101

It's amazing how much your body changes during pregnancy. If you've ever been pregnant, you know what I'm talking about and if not, I will spare you the details! The most obvious change, however, is a growing belly. This is the most wonderful, hard evidence that your baby is developing and growing - nothing can make parents happier than to witness their baby preparing for life in the real world.

As you all have read, over the past week and a half my belly has really started protruding to the point of wearing a bella band and leaving some of my tight jeans unbuttoned. :) I was in pregnancy bliss, not caring a thing about getting a little bigger in the stomach area, until the following comment was made this week:

"AWWW, you look so cute CHUBBY!!!! I didn't even recognize you when you came up to the window."

ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME? I had just walked into one of my client's offices, where my stomach was groped and doted on by the staff, only to be followed up with an ignorant and insulting comment like that!!!! I thought the Incredible Hulk was about to burst out - I could feel my muscles tightening and my face getting hot... I'm absolutely sure that smoke was coming out of my ears at that point!!! Seriously? She didn't recognize me? Had my face morphed over the past WEEK to an unrecognizable HULK? For about 30 minutes, I was miffed... skipping out on the Bar-B-Que I had ordered for another office and eating a healthy salad with chicken. This didn't last long, though... once the peach cobbler was opened, I came to my senses and realized that this girl had never been pregnant and no one had ever told her what NOT TO SAY TO A PREGNANT HULK-WOMAN!!!

About 2 weeks ago, I walked into another doctor's office, where the doctor himself made the following comment:

"You're even gaining weight in your face."

Again, ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?

But, the icing on the cake was when another one of my doctors asked:

"Did you get a BOOB JOB???"

WOW - I mean at that point, I just had to laugh and recognize that people really HAVE NO CLUE WHAT TO SAY!!! And the boob job comment was made by an OBGYN!!!

You know, before I was pregnant I was guilty of making the following comment to pregnant ladies, thinking it was a TOTAL compliment:

"You're getting so BIG!!"

Let me save you the breath... depending on if hormones are raging or calm, this is not exactly a compliment unless you phrase it just right! While my intentions were 100% genuine - I really thought "getting big" equated to a big, healthy baby in the Mom's eyes - the Mom might be hearing this:

"You're getting so FAT!!"

So, be careful with that comment. It hasn't offended me yet, but I know it's offended some other friends.

In talking to other pregnant gals, some other comments that are just down-right unacceptable:

"You're getting fat/fatter!"
"Wow, you sure are gaining weight!"
"Did you get a boob job?"
"Your face is rounder."
"You're gaining weight in your face."
"You have some junk in your trunk."
"Your belly is lumpy."
or any comments about:
- fitting into clothes

- not fitting into clothes
- growing out of clothes
- eating incessantly
- eating too much chocolate
- having bad skin/pregnancy acne
- or ANY comments about your face morphing.

During pregnancy, not only does your body go into "save mode" and save extra fat on your body, but water retention is usually inevitable. I have heard of girl's faces actually morphing because of water retention. Legs, arms, ankles, necks, faces, can all get bigger and tighter with just a little water retention.

Comments that are completely FABULOUS to say to a pregnant woman:
"You look amazing/fabulous/great/beautiful/wonderful."
"Your BABY is growing." (there is NO confusion about WHAT it is that is growing)
"Your BABY is getting bigger."
Or any comments about how your baby is growing bigger and stronger!

Now, I am not saying to LIE and make something up to make the person feel better, I am just telling people to treat the person like they are NOT PREGNANT. You would never tell a non-pregnant someone that they are getting fatter/rounder, etc. So, DON'T SAY IT to a Hulk-Woman whose hormones are RAGING!!!!

I think that my hormones have been pretty under control over the past 4 months, and the comments that were made above have not affected me as much as they have just made me laugh and roll my eyes at men who have NO CLUE! I do, however, always keep in mind that there are pregnant women with RAGING hormones and that is what ultimately led me to write this post.

Love to you all!!!! ROAR!

Weekend with Brooke - 15 weeks!

What a fabulous weekend! My best friend, Brooke, came to visit Friday morning from Atlanta. David was out of town at the tournament in Augusta, so Brooke and I had a total girls' weekend - full of food, shopping, and lots of laughs. It was great to spend a long weekend with her considering we had not seen each other since her wedding in October!

There are 6 of us that are still best friends from growing up - we're missing Jenny in this picture at Brooke's Rehearsal Dinner.

Brooke got married at the Allman Brothers' Farm in Juliette, GA. Jenny(missing from above), Amanda, and I had a ball on the golf cart with our champagne!!

Brooke, in her gorgeous dress, with her Dad:

Brooke and her new hubby... they are always cracking up!

I took Brooke to try all my favorite Houston restaurants that I could fit into a weekend- Dolce Vita, Zoe's, Hungry's, Berripop. And, I couldn't let her leave without grilling out Saturday night and eating artichokes with her famous dill dip! I think she probably went home a few pounds heavier from trying to match my "momma" eating habits! It's amazing home many snacks I like to have during the day!

Some new belly pics... right at 15 weeks! I am so white! It's definitely time to get to a pool!

That's why I'm so big!!!! 14 weeks

This week, we had a great appointment at a high-risk OB to do a test called the Nuchal Transleucency test. There are only a select number of OBs who can preform this elective test, and they are usually high-risk OBs. This test screens for downs... however it is not a diagnostic test, just a screening test. (We opted to do this test so that we would could be best prepared for our little one.) They measure the fluid on the back of the baby's neck and anything under 3cm is considered normal. The higher the amount of fluid, the more likely you are to deliver a baby with downs syndrome. Fortunately, the OB measured our little baby's neck at 1.8cm... very small... he said he has many babies with this exact measurement and was very comfortable with it. YAY!

He also took measurements of the baby and said that we are about a week ahead of schedule based on the size of the baby!!! This was definitely music to my ears, considering I am already showing at 14 weeks!!! Now I have the perfect excuse as to why my stomach "popped out" last weekend. My suit pants FIT Friday, and by Monday I could not button them!!!

Lastly, we asked Dr. Kirshon to confirm it's a boy. He looked at us with a smile and said, "OH YEAH, it's definitely a BOY!!!" Of course I looked over at David who is staring the ultrasound screen, and all I could see was a huge grin on his face! He's so proud that we can see the package so early!!!

I am posting the picture of his little bottom that confirmed it's a boy, but I'm still a little hesitant to start decorating or buying clothes. I had lunch with my prego girlfriend, Kristin, this week and showed her the picture, which she said looked exactly like the one they got at 14 weeks. She was told it was a boy, then at 16 weeks, her OB retracted that statement and told her it was a girl!!!
WOW! What a resemblance to David! ;)
